2nd October 2013 –
Goodbye Ireland, hello England!
We left Andrew & Ramona’s
after breakfast – sad to say goodbye.
To the airport in plenty of time
after returning the hire car. Our plane was very late leaving Dublin, and even
though it made up some of the time, we still arrived in London half an hour
late.
We picked up our new hire car and
headed straight for Windsor where we are staying for the next week. We are
staying in a terrace house – there was a problem with the keys and we needed to
get an emergency set but it’s all under control now... it’s good to be in a
place with our own kitchen and washing machine after all this time on the road!
With all the time-consuming business
at airports and car hire offices, it was late afternoon by the time we got
here. We had a bit of a walk around – Windsor is a funny place, with very
English-looking streets and shops – and a great big Norman castle right in the
middle!
There is also a shopping centre
next to the railway station, which looks like it used to be part of the
station, and has a steam engine in it.
There is a building that looks
like a larger version of the Tholsel in Kilkenny.
Everything in Windsor seems to
have a royal seal on it. Even the supermarket we popped into for some shopping
has big plaques and coats of arms up saying that they are a supplier of
groceries, wine and liqueurs to the Queen!
